[SD-User] USB ports - or not

Just home from another trip to 8P6. SDX performed well ... but the laptop 
didn't; its just too unreliable to take any more (two dead hard disks, flaky usb 
and noisy psu).

So, I need to replace it. Trouble is that modern laptops don't have USB ports 
any more - or do they. Any suggestions, eg can modern ports (firewire) cater ? 
(I use usb for CAT and Winkey).
