Guys, this is a repeat of a message I sent Thusrday. I have not heard
from the missing 2 sponsors.
Guys, ran into some trouble with the HD here this morning and need
some information. Some data got corrupted.
Present sponsors for 2000 are
Paul Hansen, Lee Hiers, SEDXC, Bruce Savage, Jay Pryor, John
Vickers, John Laney and his Dad, and the Columbus ARC. Total of 9
meaning I'm missing 2.
If you are not mentioned in the above, and you received an email from
me confirming your sponsorship, or asked to sponsor a plaque, please
notify me again. On the other hand, if any of the above is incorrect,
let me know.
Also, if you did NOT sponsor a P, but would like to, I will take
standby reservations.
In any event, I must have this information by Tuesday morning about 9
at the latest. The 2000 award printouts will be delivered to Creative
Designs at that time, and that will be it.

Gary,
Stone Mountain Pecan is just a few miles down 78 and has excellent items.
(The butter toffee coated pecans are excellent....)

Most exciting thing so far, post-ARRL DX Contest, is the hernia I picked
up. I've been devoting most of my time to dreading getting the thing fixed!
However, also in my plans are:
- Put up a new inverted L for 160M to replace the one that fell down the
first night of ARRL-DX CW
- Move the 40M dipole so the coax doesn't interfere with turning my rooftop A3
- Redesign/rebuild the shelves at my operating desk, to be more 2-radio
friendly
- Continue my search for a "doable" 40M antenna with gain
None of the summer contests are musts for me, but as time allows I'll spend
time on the NAQPs/Sprints, IARU and WAE. Plus, I'm planning on a full
effort in WPX-CW at NQ4I.
Who is going to Dayton? (I'm not.)

Well,
The activities here had been suspended while the grandkids took over last
week.
We did work a couple of QRP countries last week, late hours.
Next weekend My little island hopper club, Island Rovers of GA, will be
activating two new islands in Lake Lanier. April 14th, K4USI, the club
call, will be on 14260 and 28460, to qualify these new ones in the US
Islands Awards Program. It is not contesting, but we do cause a small
pile-up for an hour or two at these new collectable islands. By the way, we
will drive onto the islands via causeways. One location is West Bank Park
on Buford dam road, and is a great example of an island that can be driven
to. Check www.k4usi.homestead.com for other brags on our island
"expeditions".
Dayton... caravanning up with the BSRG road burners, great fun. The
"Imperial Cruiser" usually is parked on the sites with the mast hoisting the
banner, and a portable repeater antenna. (It is coordinated for Dayton)
Field Day... I have reserved K0W for field day in Breckenridge CO., but we
may not be there for that weekend. If not, I will go with Southern Poly
Club to Red Top for the fun. They have been running QRP field day for about
5 years now, and always do well. They lack CW ops tho, and I get to be the
CW op most of the time.
Meantime, I continue to work on ILOG, my version of a logger for people who
move around a lot when they play. The basics are in, ADIF in/out, Cabrillo,
logging, and callbook lookups. Putting radios in now, starting with my 4
yaesus.
That's the idle chatter from here, we will be on the road much of the
summer, most of the time until Joan has to get back to teaching at Cobb
county, Blackwell Elementary. It is nice to see the other "current fun"
notes.
Keep Busy...

Hello all...the NQ4I team is re-assembling once again to defend our current
world record NA(North America) score...on CW for WPX....so far the
following are headed down to Griffin to make another record setting
effort...K4OGG, W4DD, K2UFT, N7BG,AA4S, N4AA, K4PK, WI4R, K4PI, KS5M,
K4WI, AA4LR and maybe W2VJN...there is still room at the inn...we could use
one more hotshot cw whiz...if interested drop me a note...
On another note...GAQP...NQ4I station might be on the air as K4HYB...the
local Griffin(Spalding Co) radio club has been extended an invitation to
activate the the station and put Spalding co on as Multi-multi...does
anyone have a logging program that we might use...I am a CT user and don't
have anything that will support the GAQP much less as MM....
So far I don't have any firm antenna projects for the summer...last time I
started the summer out like this the tornado came thru and took out the 80m
2 el, an 8 el 10m, the 6 el 20m and the 3 el 40m...it took almost 6 months
to repair everything from that episode...I am in the process of rebuilding
a 3 element 40m Telrex...it will be identical to the current one on the sw
tower...plans are for a move to a new qth and a pair stacked at 100ft and
180 ft...just finishing up a 5 el 10m yagi....not even sure where i will
put it...and have recently aquired another ring rotor...will probably put
it on the big tower just below the 80m 2 el and allow the top 10m yagi to
rotate...this will give us even more 10m flexibility...Happy contesting to
all...de Rick

Yesterday I received my certificate for "Worked all Chads" in the CW NAQP
in January. The Florida Contest Group did an excellent job with this
clever promotion, printing the certificate and including a "Chad" key ring,
plus the rules for the 2001 FQP.
I think K9AY suggested that we might come up with a SECC promotion of some
kind for the next NAQP, which unfortunately will come after the
GQP. Anyone have a suggestion about what we might try? We might do
something as simple as coming up with a common name -- or something more
elaborate.

From Ernie"
Hello,
For those of you that don't have high speed internet connections for your DX
spots, I've put a new cluster on the air.
I'm located in south Forsyth County and have access at both 1200 and 2400
bps. I am linked up to DXCentral.com. There are typically 17 to 21 nodes
in this system. I have European spots blocked.
Here is the procedure for connecting:
To connect on 1200 bps:
Go to 145.69 MHz
Type: c sawnee
Then type: c ax3 ks4q
You will then be asked for a callsign and password to log into the cluster.
Obviously, you can pick your own. This site is located on top of Sawnee
Mountain and has extremely good RF coverage.
For 2400 bps access:
Go to 145.63 MHz
Type: c cdx
Then type: DX
You will then be asked for a callsign and password to log into the cluster.
Again, you can pick your own. I prefer that you not try to connect up to me
directly on this frequency. This site has pretty good coverage but will not
be as good as the 1200 bps access point.
It took a lot of effort to get all this going. Thanks go out to the
following for their efforts: KD4K, W4DD, K4PI, K4SB, K4BAI, and WA4BPY.

need a reason to hang in there!
Here are some ideas to start things off...
"Georgia on my Mind" (Ray and Charles)
"Midnight Train to Georgia" (Gladys and 4 Pips)
Jimmy and the Peanuts
UGA and the Bulldogs (Jay is the captain of this team!)
Tomahawk Chops (Let's see how the Braves are doing in August)
What about 'Bama and S. Carolina?
We have lots of time to come up with something fun!

FYI,
The South Forsyth County DX Cluster has been upgraded to 2400 bps. The
equipment is located on top of Sawnee Mtn, just west of Cumming. This is a
choice location where many cell, broadcast, and commercial two way
communications towers are located. The Cluster is networked to DXCentral
.com via ADSL line.
To access the cluster, get on 145.09 and type: "c sawnee"
After you've done that and gotten an acknowlegement, type: "c ax3 ks4q" At
that point you are into the cluster. Data throughput should be fair, as my
uplink to Sawnee is on a separate channel.
The equipment on 145.69 does not appear to be working at all. The radio
appears to be history.
There is also access through a NET/ROM on 145.63. This site is located near
the intersection of GA-400 and GA-141 and runs 50 watts of power.
To access it, get on frequency and type: "c cdx"
After you get an acknowledgement, type: "c ks4q"
Because the equipment on Sawnee is vintage, it is not all working well,
particulary the radios. My guess is that the newest radio is 15 years old!
All of them are Xtal controlled antiques and may not be entirely on
frequency.
Thus, I am looking for a 3 two meter rigs that have some life left in them.
35 to 50 or so watts of power would be good. If you've got something you
can donate or sell for a reasonable price, let me know. Please, no
antiques.
The TNCs are also old. I've attempted to align all three of them, but some
appear to be far far gone. So, if you have a MFJ 1270B or 1270C with 2400
bps modem that you can donate to the cause or sell for a reasonable price,
let me know. BTW, plans are to keep a 1200 bps access point at Sawnee Mtn.
My overall objective here is to provide something that works well, is
reliable, and won't have to be constantly tweaked or massaged by me or
anyone else. This is why I want to upgrade some of the equipment.
Thanks go out to W4DD, KD4K, K4PI. We've all put a mix of money, time and
effort into providing this resource for the DXing and Contesting community.
Enjoy!
Regards, Ernie KS4Q

As of yesterday, plaques to the winners of both the 1999 and 2000
contests are being shipped to the respective winners.
For K4BAI, John, your plaque will be delayed slightly. They left your
name off.
I hope to have a .jpg image of the placques available to all in the
next couple of days. But believe me, Creative Designs did an
outstanding job.

Hi Neal,
Gee, this morning I received a beautiful plaque for operating the GA
QSOP. Unfortunately, I don't believe it is for me. My entry was for
single op - QRP, and the plaque reads "High Rover Georgia"
Don't believe a plaque is given for out-of-state QRP, but one would be
great..Hi.
Sure is a nice one though! What should I do with it?
Thanks,

There's one more SSCW plaque winner among us...Don, W4OC.
He is the SOLP winner of the Roanoke Division!

K9AY
By the way, I did about the same in my bad QSOs vs. 1999, still in the
4% error range. I know I got sloppy toward the end. A "golden log"
would have put me a couple places into the Top 10 box...K9AY
