Finally caught up with discussion while on the road...

1. Yes, late July propagation is lousy. Big mid-day absorption on the =
high
bands and noisy low bands.

2. I agree 110% with the "Critical Mass" concept. GQP was good enough =
this
year to get people's attention, but I doubt that much more growth is =
possible.
I have never been much of a fan of state QSO parties because you run out =
of rate=20
in 15 minutes -- you work a few guys, tell yourself you took part in =
their contest,
then go cut the grass, grab a beer and swing in the hammock. A combo =
event=20
with neighboring states would keep 'em in the hamshack a little longer.

3. I would prefer not to have a contest name refer to any Southern =
stereotypes.
They don't fit me as a Northern transplant, and they generally are out =
of favor among
the "politically correct." A geographic reference is sufficient.

4. I don't think we need to worry so much about other events on the =
same
weekend, as long as the other events draw mostly separate participants =
-- RTTY,
a QRP sprint, even a minor national DX contest. It was no big deal for =
me to send
double exchanges for the HA(?) DX contest and the RSGB 40M contest this =
winter.

My thoughts...

Gary, K9AY=20
(/9 for a couple more days)
