[SECC] Cobb County Tower Query

Jim Altman, W4UCK, was the ARRL legal advisor that I consulted with when I
put up my tower in Cobb and when I moved to Dekalb. Basically, you go apply
for a building permit. You take a copy of your propertyt layout that you
got at your closing and mark where your tower will be on the property in
relation to the house and the property lines. Most metro counties have a
75' limit, I think. And the tower must be 1/3 the height from a property
line. Then you draw up how tall the tower will be, guying, etc. A copy of
the appropriate page of the Rohn catalog will help. Once you put the tower
up, then call the inspector to check it out and sign the building permit.

It might help to check with W4UCK in case it is different from when I did
it. If you can't get in touch with W4UCK, contact our section manager:

She will get you in touch with the right people to guide you through what
you need to do.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with somewhat recent experience in
putting up tower in Cobb County (Atlanta suburb). Have private, wooded acre
behind house just outside subdivision and thinking about putting something
up, probably in the 60-70 foot range (i.e. not W4AN south). Wondering how
difficult the process is and/or any experience with ex post facto
enforcement (i.e. putting up first, asking forgiveness later).

Private responses fine, will forward if anyone else interested.

Thanks

Blessings to all
