1850 will be a very busy CW frequency during the nighttime hours. I
don't think there is much daytime SSB on 160 meters in our area, so 1850
is probably still a good choice. We can always move a few khz if there
is a SSB QSO there. 1830 is on the edge of the DX Window, and I'd not
want to be on that frequency at 12Z or maybe even at 13Z when the Texas
guys can still work DX.

Let's leave it at 1850?

This morning, I changed out the AL811H (used on a daily basis because it
covers the WARC bands) for the Alpha 78 and it seemed to load OK on
160. This is the first time I have used this Alpha 78 on top band.
(The one I used in ARRL DX in December was a loaner from NQ4I.) The
output doesn't seem as high as I thought it should be, but it will put
out at least as much as the AL811H and is full QSK. I will probably be
a bit scarce tonight early as we are having an investiture for a new
federal judge in Columbus at 4 PM and my wife's brother and sister are
visiting for their mother's 94th birthday and we are taking them out to
dinner tonight. I'll certainly be QRV when everyone else goes to bed,
if not before.

Hope everyone has fun. There is a REF (France) CW contest running part
of this weekend that some of you may want to dabble in during the dead
daylight hours on 160. You send RST plus serial number and French
stations (including Caribbean and J2 and Pacfic etc) send their
department number or maybe the prefix for the possessions.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and a lot of fun on top band.

73,

John, K4BAI.
