For those who may be mystified by Kevan's comment below, here's my comment
which he got but did not make to the reflector since I sent if from a
non-subscription address:

"Glad to have Kevan on board, but as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer and sub
hunter for much of my 36 years in the Navy, I can't let that "target"
comment pass without a good natured bronx cheer.

Welcome aboard, shipmate

Scott, K0DQ/ A92Q/ COMFIFTHFLEET

Well Scott,

Thanks for the welcome. The 'target'
comment actually
came from Bill, but he does seem to have
it accurate.

I remember all too clearly waiting
around during war
games for you so called 'sub hunters' to
find us. It
seemed all too often we had to either go
up and broach
or move straight into your sensor range
just so we
could let you targets find us. And what
about those
flares that sometimes appeared
mysteriously in the
middle of the surface combat groups?
Wonder where
they came from if it is so easy to find
the Silent
Service?

Looking forward to being a productive
club member.
Might be a bit harder now though. Just
starting a
new 'challenge' with a consultant group
called
Day & Zimmermann. We've landed a
contract with
General Electric's Gas Turbine Testing
Laboratory.
I'll be working 10 hour days and its 75
minutes one
way. Doesn't leave as much time as I'd
like for
antenna work.
