[SECC] KU8E/P IOTA Expedition, etc.

Hi all - Gosh what a tough time!  Hate to hear about a no fun expedition.

Our experience at St Simons was a whole lot better.  And after reading about 
the KU8E/P operation it got even better.  Bill, K4QCD, is our local IOTA 
chaser so I asked if he and another couple would like to give IOTA contesting a 
try.  They said yes and off we went to St. Simons.  Most of our problems related 
to not having enough time to prepare for the weekend.  This was the first time 
I ever used WriteLog (except for trying it on the recent IARU) in a contest 
and I wanted to network it so we could have seperate screens for the run 
station and the multi station.  Well the XP computers were networked but WriteLog 
wouldn't connect. And after setting everything up from scratch (including the 
network) one last time, I set WriteLog up on one laptop like a SO2R and went 
from there.  That also meant that we ultimately scrapped cw for the contest.  The 
portable hex beam was terrific on 20m but the multi band vertical got us 
nowhere.  40m was horrible on ssb, I did hear some cw but the noise was very 
loud.  Tried to raise someone on 80m late but got no response.  15m would have been 
better we had something else for the antenna.  We put up a long wire for my 
706MkII and it got us CT9X, ZK1USA, ZL6QH, P43E and some others on 15m.  But 
20m was great - we worked over 450 there with some nice long runs.  Bonus 
included 11 VKs some ZLs and A35DX.  Overall we were happy, had a lot of fun, ate 
well, and have some new memories.
