Actually, Lee it was Chicken FAT operators.   I'm not certain about the 
group being born as a protest to
FOC.   That may be true.   But when I got my CFO membership certificates 
many years ago, the legend
held that the members had peaked out around 60 words per minute using 
keyboards to generate Morse, so they
decided to smear their keyboards with chicken fat to reduce friction and 
enable faster speeds.
