[SECC] FT-1000 thoughts

I have a friend that has a little used FT-1000 (like a few hours).  I'd 
like to move up a little from my TS-940 (no computer control, etc).  It 
has not filters in it.  I'm 99.99% CW.  If I put say a 1000 hz in the 
1st IF and a 400 hz in the 455 kc, would this be a good unit and an 
improvement on my 940 which has only a 400 hz at 455 kc?  Would the 
filters make this a 1000D?  Or not?

I'd probably have $1500 in it vs $2500 in an IC 756 PRO III or an 
FT2000.  Or I could just drop a hundred buck IR 8830 kc filter in my 
TS940 to help it along.
