This a great time and place for new hams to get started into contesting. Even if you are not a rookie, please consider taking time out to support our newcomers and make a few SSB contacts this Sunday!

Subject: CONTEST SIG: Rookie Roundup this Sunday!

Were you licensed in the years 2008, 2009, or 2010? And never held a
license back years ago? Then you are a "rookie" and the world
wants to work you this Sunday between 2PM and 7:59PM. Six hours
to have fun and be the "hunted". Anybody can work you but only
rookies can work anyone. It's a SSB contest (the rules say RTTY but
that has been changed for this one year only) & (CW comes up in
December) so polish up your microphone and let's hear YOU
calling CQ and signing YOURCALL/ROOKIE. Be sure to say Rookie
so everyone will know they can work you. AND don't be bashful.

The rules are all right here:

http://www.arrl.org/rookie-roundup

along with lots of Q&A and there is even an online logging program.
Try to use that if you can ....

But don't let that scare you off, just use a piece of paper and write
down the exchange info which is date/time, band, His/her callsign, his/her name,
and his/her CHECK. "Check" is the last two digits of the year first
licensed. Rookies must have a check of 08,09,10 of course.

And here is a little known fact by some "rookies", you do
not have to submit a log to be in the contest. If you only
want to make contacts and have fun. That is fine. A submitted
score must be done online by 7:59PM Wednesday is nice
but not required. It must be submitted via the website
as explained in the rules. If you need help on this, I can
help you after the contest. Just be sure to get all the info.
And post question here if you wish.

Usually the activity is right above the lower edge of the
General segment in each band. Start out on 20M and
move to 40M as the contest progresses (or jump
back and forth), and don't forget to check 10M. And
let's have all the "old" ATL hams, keep and ear on 28.400
to work OUR rookies there - straight up on the hour.

So let's hear your CQ Rookie Roundup this Sunday and
let's make GA the most common state in the Rookie Roundup.
