Managed to try out a new open-wire-fed doublet in place of the trusty
Butternut vertical. Not sure, but it felt a bit louder than the vertical,
particularly on US stations.

As W4OC noted, the noise level was vy high on low bands here as
thunderstorms stayed around most of the day and night. Vy little activity
heard on 160/80 but 40 was not too bad when the static crashes held off.

I did not hear a single WRTC station until around 9 pm on 20m and never
heard one on another band even though I worked several other UA stations on
40 and 15. Ended up working 14 of them, all weak here. So much for getting
50 WRTC QSOs.

Comments:

Thunderstorms hovered around this area for the whole contest so nise level
was
very high, which was not a help. Condx never got vy good but were OK. 20m
never died but 10m hardly opened at all and the low bands were deserted. I
was
afraid the WRTC stations had not made it on the air since did not work one
until
late Sat night. Hope they had good local condx. Otherwise, it must have
been a
long contest for them.
