I've wanted to go back to the Azores since I left in August of 1973!!! I was stationed there at Lajes Field (Terceria Island) for 3 yrs. Call: CT2BH, while this was a Portuguese colony. In the mid 70s the Azores got their independence from Portugal. Call sign prefix changed to CU vice CT2.

Great little place...there were only 9 licensed hams on the entire 9 island archipelago back in the early 70s. Had lots of fun skin diving and hunting there. Of course there was always deep sea fishing!!! Of course you had to work your way around the Russian intel gathering subs off the end of our runway, but other than that it was pretty quite!
