Comments:

I haven't operated a VHF Sweepstakes since 1992, and no VHF events since 1993, when I sold my 2m and 220 MHz transverters. This is also the first contest I've done on 6m.

My XYL bought me the K3/100 for Christmas, so naturally I had to give 6m a try. During the NAQP Phone on Saturday, I would jump up to 6m and listen for any activity -- but I never heard anything.

Sunday afternoon, I spent a few hours listening to a lot of static. Other that working a couple of local stations, I didn't manage to raise much of anything. Then I experienced my first 6m opening. First contact was W1QK around 2315z, and it proceeded for the next 45 minutes, moving like a spotlight down the eastern seaboard.

I didn't have much in the way of antennas to work with, so I just loaded up the couple I had. I was amazed anyone could hear me at all. I'm going to have to improvise an antenna before the next VHF contest. Something with a bit of gain and directionality.

What fun! I look forward to getting some confirmations for 6m on LotW.
