[SECC] me stupido!

No,  I've NEVER done anything like that.  I did use a long piece of
apparently very lossy coax fed by an antenna tuner to work part of a
contest once though. It was laying on the ground with nothing attached.  It
worked better than yours. I could get California with it (from SC).
