Got a simple solution from my 
nephew Ben... IT guy at accounting firm in T-town...it's free and works!
 also a linnex version. Check out the link below. I am backing up as i 
send this. I was really loath to fool with the registry... end up 
pulling out hair every time I mess with my computer. lol Cort

 I have never had reliable 
results from windows backups.  the program i've been using most lately 
is from VEEAM.

Laptop backup - Veeam Endpoint Backup
It does image level backups so
 you can do a bare metal restore if needed as well as file level 
restores.
