Hello all:

In the CQ 160M contest last weekend, my only Puerto Rico multiplier was
with WP3X, a club call for whom the operator and trustee were former
SECC member Ken Ramirez, N4UK. I have had several e-mail exchanges with
Ken, who has retired to his family property on Puerto Rico. His QRZ
page is very interesting and reminded me of some of his previous contest
operations, particularly from SC, Puerto Rico, and one from Panama, when
he was often joined by SECC members, including W4OC and AA4S.

Ken says that he has applied for a KP call and hopes to receive it soon.
I assume the government shut down has slowed down that process.
Anyway, if you hear Ken on the air, be sure to say hello.

I purchased an AL811-H from Ken once. We met in the parking lot for the
Lawrenceville hamfest when he was going to the hamfest and I was going
to the W4AN station near Dahlonega for ARRL SS CW. It may or may not be
the same AL811-H that is now owned by Jimmy Walker, WA4ILO, in Macon. I
had two at one time and sold one to an 8P6 ham when the guys I sub-let
from were closing down the 8P9Z station on Barbados (or so they
thought--they ended up selling it to W2SC who operates from there as
8P5A in contests today).

73, John, K4BAI.
