SAD News, I first worked Paul as W4YWX in 1959. I finally met him at the Atlanta hamfest in 1973. In addition to contesting and DXing Paul was an active USA County hunter working all counties several times, giving out counties, and attending the county hunting conventions.
Paul was a Atlanta Braves score keeper deciding on hits or errors and lived in Stone Mountain on a suburban lot with one tower loaded with antennas. He used the Kirk Helocoilal beams and a 40 meter beam with wire extensions hanging down. Very impressive.
One of his favorite stories was he had a neighbor with a mobile phone that operated just below 160. Being an active 160 DXer and Contester he had converted a Viking Thunderbolt to 160 and he blew the neighbors phone while running high power on 160.
He will be missed.
RIP Paul Dave K4JRB

Hello all:
I just had a phone call from Father Dave Probst, ND4K, in
Milledgeville. Dave had just been called by Paul Newberry's XYL,
Martha, to tell him that Paul died this morning of a heart attack.
No information on funeral plans or memorial contributions yet.
Martha wanted the word spread, so I am sending it out to the
contest and DX reflectors. More later, when I know more. Assume
services will be in Macon, GA later this week.
Regretfully,
John, K4BAI.
