Here is part of an e-mail I received from Les Murphy, K4DY, who is the
sorter for the W4/K4/N4 bureau "D" letters. It adds a little more to
the e-mail sent out by Chaz, K4GK yesterday. I guess we can thank the
US Postal Service for "Improving" things.<br>

game with regard to mailings at the </font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">W/K/N 4 buro. From now on, it
is really going to be hard to</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">determine the right postage to
put on an envelope. I am hoping</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">that our buro manager, K4DXA
will come up with some kinda of</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">mailing insert that we can put
in with our future mailings. It's</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">not just metal clasps anymore,
it's envelope size, and thickness</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">that will determine the amount
of postage needed. The ARRL</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">may also address this problem
in some future issue of QST. The</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">3-land buro has already come
up with an insert that they are sending <br>
their customers and K4DJ made a copy and is sending</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">to his customers as he mails
cards this week.</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">The main thing to remember is
to use envelopes without clasps</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">(or remove the clasps like
Richard suggested) and to keep </font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">envelope size down to no
larger than 6x9. I have already removed</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">the clasps on most of the
envelopes I currently have on hand. It</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">was quite a job. I had over
1/2 pound of clasps after I was finished</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">hi. In some cases I may put
fewer cards in an envelope to avoid</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">going into the higher rates
because of envelope thickness. The</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">first ounce is of course 41
cents. Each additional ounce is 17</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">cents until you get to 3 and
1/2 ounces after which a different</font></strong></div>
<div><strong><font face="Arial" size="2">rate chart applies. I have a
copy of the new rates on a PDF file</font></strong></div>
