The high bands were dead so I went to 40 cw and called CQ for about a hour on 7050 with no takers. I checked the SSB freq and nothing there either. In fear that my antenna had gone bad, I went lower in the band and worked a bunch of Scandanavians in the SAC Contest. Sunday morning I came back and managed to work one SC stn fm Aiken County and a few non-SCers, most of whom gave me #1. I tried 20 with again no takers. I gave up after a couple of hours and went out and played golf. I wudda been better off calling CQ

I had been planning on going mobile around the state but had to drop that idea when I got tied up in a community theater event on Sat. - From the activity level I heard and am hearing about, that was probably for the better.

Final tally - 33 QSOs (all cw) and one county for a grand total of 66 points. I dunno which was worse - only one other SC stn (that I heard) or the fact that no one seemed to even miss us. I'm afraid the contest rules need drastic revision and a lot more publicity if this event is going to amount to something. Given the scarcity of hams in SC and the people outside SC that need some SC QSOs, it is a shame.

73,

Dennis, K2SX

-----Original Message-----

I finally have some antennas up in the air again. So I
thought the SC QP would be a great chance to see how these new wires work.

In some 8 hours of listening and calling CQ SCQP on 20/40/80,
I found all of two SC stations on CW. The activity must have been down
substantially because there is only one post on the 3850 contest reflector and
that was from a N2xx who was running SSB QRP. Most of the SC station that
actually were on the air must have primarily been SSB operations? The two CW
stations had s/n’s of 104 and 112.

So either my antennas don’t work worth a hoot or CW
has been banned in SC? Or maybe they should name it the SC SSB QP?
