For those new to contesting, or perhaps a little rusty on club competition rules, here is an explanation of what the SECC circle means and doesn't mean. First, it IS NOT a limitation on membership. The SECC welcomes all new members, inside or outside the circle. While the club is centered, and its focus is primarily on the US Southeast, we have members all around the US and welcome anyone with an interest in joining us., Also, locals who join sometimes must leave our area at a later date, but we subscribe to the thought that "once a member, always a member." There are no dues, so once you join - that's it, you are an SECC member. The club requests that members get on the air and contribute scores to the club a minimum of twice a year - but this has not been a rigid requirement. It's a recommendation and it's understood there are times in our ham careers when we are unavoidably off the air for one reason or another. Both the ARRL and CQ Magazine sponsor national and international contests and place limits on the geographic area a club can encompass for the purposes of club competition; more on this in a moment. It's important to note however, that there are many, many other contest sponsors and they do not place geographic limits on contributing individual scores to a club aggregate. ARRL contests (nine per year), CQ contests (six per year) and a very few more have a geographic limitation. These are listed below. The ARRL defines a club's encompassed area as either an ARRL section or a circle with a radius of 175 miles. Being a regional club, the SECC has elected to use the circle method of determining who can contribute scores for ARRL contests. The SECC circle is centered at 33.2 degrees North, 82.5 degrees West. The northeast edge of the circle includes Charlotte, NC and the southwest edge of the circle includes Columbus and Albany Georgia as well as a small portion of Alabama. CQ magazine defines a club circle as having a radius of 275 Km which is nearly identical to the ARRL definition. When you apply for SECC membership, we ask you to include your latitude and longitude on the application. This allows the club secretary to calculate your status with respect to the ARRL and CQ circles. When you receive an acknowledgement of your application, the secretary will inform you if you are within or outside the two circles. Remember, you can always contribute scores for contests other than those sponsored by the ARRL or CQ magazine, even if you are outside the circle. Here's the SECC Circle:

No I think you said it right Saturday - maybe we can win the LOCAL competition! Maybe we can get 4 or 5 off their ' internet membership' butts to play.
