Methinks there is evil intent designed to steer me in the wrong direction in Jere’s freely given advice in the guise of Ham Friendship, but I’m not sure. I need to study on it a bit. It seems suspicious somehow. He weaves advice to take many stretch breaks, which I have to do because of my physical problems, with operating strategy advice that just doesn't seem right. The best tricksters mix truth with misdirection.  New contesters would be wise to look this Gift-horse in the mouth.

Hark, Forsooth, Avast, and other weird words! See how he uses the knowledge and power of the Old Masters against them. He clearly details how he defeated the Contest Monster in the ARRL DX. BEWARE though oh Savannah Terror – I happen to know the Drubber has sought out another reclusive master, the Great Don, W4OC, who helped the Contest Monster redesign his antenna systems. When the twain meet again I’m sure the Monster will win out!

And do not fail to take note on how he seeks to spread his sway over our contesting world. He is raising a legion of followers down there in Southeastern Georgia. Read the words from two of his key Henchman. KK4TXZ said: “KT4ZB encouraged me to join, so here I am!”, and KW4B is even deeper under his control as his words plainly show: “Very much enjoy spending time with my contest elmer, Jere KT4ZB, I've learned a lot from him and his enthusiasm for contesting is contagious.”

I’ll bet he has already taught these two the powerful CQ WPX Chant of “CQ Contest. CQ Contest. Anybody, Anywhere."  Jere knows this is both a domestic and international contest and using that phrase sometimes help raise the rate. I'm sure he wouldn't hesitate to pass that tip along to his minions. What other help do you think he has given them already and what more do we have to fear he has yet to teach in regards to the CQWW WPX?

Good hunting everyone. You too Jere.

Oh my, here we go. Can you believe, Kevan playing the "poor ole' country boy " card. What was it that the spider said to the fly? If you want to play that little WPX  game…come on in. Don't mind that WPX plaque on the wall. And hey, that new horizontal loop antenna only has 2 QSO's on it so who knows if it's really any good?

And don't believe that silly talk about working assisted might give you some edge, everyone knows that WPX is nothing but a rate contest.  Now Kevin does have a mighty fine Pedegree, what with the "The Judge", and "Drubber, The Contest Monster",  Hard to beat that combination. However, Kevin if you must know, my "original" Contest Elmer is and continues to be the "Da Judge". No way he's gonna  lose in this competition.  And the last time that the Drubber and I went sort of head-to-head was in the 2014 ARRL DX Contest, I had 2,069,949 points while John had a measly 2,021,370; that's a 2.3 percent difference you see..

Now I never really learned much from Jim, VE7ZO because I was just so in awe of watching and listening him run 40m that I forgot what I was supposed to do. But he would let me be a 40m daytime op, so I did learn how to call CQ.

Now in the spirit of ham friendship, here's a few tips. On Friday night start on 80m and then go to 10m about 9:30 to !0 pm. Sleep in on Saturday, since we're running low power; that will give the big guns time to whittle down the pile. Start out on 40m and if you see the 9N spotted, spend an hour or so working the pile giving out only your last two of your call. Never, never usea keyer. Most importantly, take some time to get up and stretch, eat a snack and catch some NCAA action.  That way you'll come back to the QRM refreshed.

Sounds like a fun weekend coming up - too bad John's in Arizona. Miss you Drubber.  Come on everyone get on the air and let loose!

Good hunting Kevan - Jere

I pretty much ran unassisted for all those years because I didn't have internet out here in the boonies and didn't have a choice. Now I figure it gives me the best chance for wall paper.

All, Jere and I have had similar stations, we aren't far apart, and we've had some great close finishes over the years. His station has generally been a bit better, but I had that rarer SC mult.

Here's the situation for this upcoming weekend. I used to have an NS4 call and now I don't, but he's got a KT4 call giving him the edge. He's just added a few more dB by stealing my secret weapon - a 520 ft loop. Well, his is 480 ft, but what's 40 ft among rivals?. He has more assisted experience from his home station than I have had from mine. His 70 ft tower is 20 ft taller than mine. My rarer SC mult doesn't count in the WPX. Sounds to me like he is trying to take advantage of this poor ole' country boy who's just trying to get along.

But I've had some studying time operating near some great contest masters. People like "'The Judge", K4BAI and "Drubber, The Contest Monster", W4IX, and the near mythical Jim, VE7ZO. They would sometimes  actually deign to let me watch over their shoulder now and then. Only rarely would they give up the mike or key to this lowly young'un, but something just had to have worn off and stuck to this ignorant wanna be contester.

So with that in mind -- Sharpen up your keyboard Jere because I accept your challenge! Assisted it is!

As a disclaimer... don't blame any of the above mentioned contest masters should their tutelage have gone astray and I somehow <gasp> lose. It wouldn't be their fault. I accept full responsibility for my own score. I live and die by my very own "Roger Roger Roger" finding its way through an S9 noise level using my measly 100 watts and wouldn't dream of blaming them. (Except maybe I could blame Jere for taking unfair advantage. Yeah, that sounds better than accepting the blame all by myself.)

Anyone else care to yell into their K3 keyer loud enough to join us like Dennis is threatening to do?

Hi all - I plan to do WPX full-time again this year. And, I am glad to see that Kevan is going to be on too. He is super competition in low-power so I'm looking forward to the challenge. Kevin, do you want to go head-to-head this year? I normally run assisted and I know that you normally run unassisted, so if you'd like to do it straight up I'm ready to go. Just pick a category. Also, there isn't anyway in the world I'm going to "school you" about anything when it comes to running a low power station.

The new antennas are up we finished the big loop on Saturday and some of the other stuff also. Check your inbox for a description of the loop.

Although if you now have better low band antennas you'll likely "school me" in how its done being where we are in the sunspot cycle as I'm stronger in the higher bands.
