Thanks everyone for your patience in waiting for the Georgia QSO Party results to come out. When I took over I wasn’t given any usable software for checking the logs. I ended up writing my own which took me awhile to complete. You also probably noticed there is also a new web page that I created as well. I also have been spending lots of time looking for a new job so I couldn’t spend 100% of my time working on GQP stuff. With my software in place and some automation on the web page the results will be coming out quickly in future years. I’m predicting maybe a month or so after the log deadline moving forward.

Log Checking Issues

I had lots of logs that weren’t in the correct Cabrillo file format that I had to fix. In the future I am asking that you check your log file before you submit it. I was a nice guy this time and fixed the problems that I found. In the future I might not be so forgiving and I will just classify your log as a check log. I also noticed some entries that were submitted as CW only or SSB only but had contacts on both modes and really should have been Mixed Mode. I made the assumption this was a mistake and fixed these as well.

Below is what a correct Cabrillo file for the GQP should look like. If the logging program you are using doesn’t generate your file in this format then you need to fix it before you submit you log. I will be contacting N1MM and N3FJP to make sure their programs are current.

Here is an example of what it should look like using KU8E as the call.

Plaques

I have been having some conversations with W4GKF. We have several plaques that haven’t been claimed in years. We also had a few that are being awarded this year where the participant made fewer than 20 contacts. Both of us agree that it isn’t right to award a plaque to someone who didn’t spend much time in the GQP and only won a plaque because they were the only entry in their category. Moving forward we are adding a new rule that an entry has to have a minimum of 50 contacts to be eligible to win a plaque. I have gone thru the list of plaques and have made the suggestion that we discontinue the following plaques:

Georgia Multi-Op/Multi-Transmitter QRP - Sponsored by W9RR
Georgia Multi-Op/Multi-Transmitter High Power - Sponsored by KG4USN
Georgia Multi-Op/Multi-Transmitter Low Power - Sponsored by AE4CW
Georgia Multi-Op/Single-Transmitter QRP Power - Sponsored by WU4B

Eliminate all the present DX plaques and replace with:
DX Mixed Mode - No power limit
DX CW - No power limit
DX SSB- No power limit

Get rid of these below:
DX Mixed Mode High Power - Sponsored by N4PN
DX Mixed Mode Low Power - Sponsored by SEDXC
DX Mixed Mode QRP - Sponsored by KH6GU/N4WV
DX CW High Power - Sponsored by WK4U - WF4W Memorial
DX CW Low Power - Sponsored by K4DX
DX CW QRP - Sponsored by N4GG
DX Phone High Power - Sponsored by K4SSU
DX Phone Low Power - Sponsored by W4GKF
DX Phone QRP - Sponsored by N4HH

Rule Changes

I have thought about making some changes to the scoring.

I’m proposing that Georgia county multipliers should only count once (not per mode) for outside of Georgia stations. It’s pretty impossible for someone to work all the Georgia counties on both modes. We wouldn’t change the rules stations inside Georgia. We would still count States/ VE provinces on both modes.

Club Competition: The same club has been winning the in state plaque every year. I’m proposing we have one plaque for large clubs (10 or more entries) and another for smaller ones.

I would like some feedback on the Georgia QSO Party. We don’t have a committee per se so I’m left on my own to make decisions. Please send me you feedback using the Contact Us link on the web page.
