GD to all.....
Is this new to 160mtr op's...NO.
Jerry's
explanation is dead on. The culprit with corroded and rust connections
is that they have a diode action ( galvanic)
about them which
make them great detectors/TX's. If you ever had a Galena xtal set as a
kid you experienced
this .
Here I
used to get some junk from a spanish speaking station close by which has
now ceased operation. Also years back
1840 was alive most
nights with a AM sig out of Ohio I believe.
1820
has been our issue here in the south since I have been active on 160
(15yrs or so). With trying to hear weak sigs any kind of birdie is very
damaging
to copy.
Since I have been using RX arrays
this has been less of an issue here though I can still hear these
birdies however way down the slope compared
to my TX
ant(vert).
As for the ARRL notification IMHO is
a waste of your time. If the FCC's specs on the AM services is being
meet in regards to 2nd es 3rd harmonic content then whats a body to
do.
The FCC is who you should light up over this........
Didn't
realize there are licensed AM stations on 1800 khz. Guess I will listen
for that. I have heard EU medium wave on or just below 1800 in the
past.
So my solution is steel fence wire not so
good for ant as it can create the diode affectt along with pasture
fences. USe of directional array of some sort might
ease your
pain for such harmonics though seem like your not enthusiastic to put up
RX system. Guess you will have to resign your self to be frustrated
over
all this.
Hey as you said it's
not a case of life/death so as they say " live with it " or get on the
stick and make some changes.........
PSE
take this dribble as a light hearted opnion all in all......
Good
discussion,
