Don't fool with the headers in the Cabrillo file. Ever since we changed to this one year ago, I have been changing the header OPERATORS to OPERATOR when I was a single op. I then added my own callsign (which was usually duplicative of the call used, but was at least once as a guest op at W8JI). This time, with my robot acknowledgement, I got an error message in line 5. I am apparently a frustrated would-be English teacher and I didn't think OPERATORS was correct for one single operator and I assumed the logchecking programs would ignore the "S" in OPERATORS. It turns out to the contrary. So, my entry as guest op from W8JI for NA Sprint in Sept may have had the same problem although it didn't prompt an error message. I will probably e-mail N6TR about that so it will be correct in the results. 73, John, K4BAI. Ernie and I are using the internet as the backbone and works great! I am running AR-Cluster software now. This config should hold up even through contests. W4UCK has been turned off for now. I have a new higher antenna courtesy Ed, K4SB (tnx Ed!) and soon more power as soon as Paul fixes the brick. You can still come through GNTNOD as before. Try it out. Please set your home node as you logon. -73 Rick N4XMX From thompson@mindspring.com Sun Nov 11 19:03:24 2001 From: thompson@mindspring.com (David L. I lost my 160 L and part of my 80 meter half square last winter (March) and I started to check into getting them fixed or replaced. The half square is caught in a branch so I can't bring it down and part of the 160L is stuck in another tree top. If anyone knows of someone who can climb a tree for me let me know. I can rescue the 80 half square but the 160L looks like a lost project but may blow out during the winter storms. I am putting up a special design 160 L (half size) in a front tree (away from the other wire fragments) it is 136 feet long and it will operate as a half wave L (see the QST article in the 1977 QST). The antenna is a Mor-Gain adapted design so it will work on 80 also. The QST article said this type of 1/2 wave L will give fairly good Dx coverage plus skywave for short skip. I also have my Mor-Gain half wave vertical with slope toward to the East (the antenna that get me ZS, C9, D68, PY0) and it seems to get into EU well as its mostly vertical...the down side is it poor for short skip. This is why I need the half square back up as its great for N/S DX and short skip. I also started working on my station set up. I have had the single PC two monitor set up going with writelog (saves having to keep up with which transceiver is used in SO2R). I have writelog but need to upgrade to the latest version and again attempt to use as a general logger too. The Main HF set up will be The Amp Supply amp and FT920. The WARC set up is an FT980 with Henry 2K. The low band set up is the original FT980 and the 8877. I can fully SO2R with the 980's and partially with the low band 980 and the 920. I will have to wire up the old Nel-Tech DVK to work with the WARC. I also have two boatanchor/classic set ups. The wife wants me to cut back especially in light of the Docs not allowing me to contest seriously ...bottom line she wants me to jettison some gear I have a AM station and Galaxy GT550 for sale if anyone is interested. Again if anyone knows of someone who will climb one tree for me please let me know. Otherwise I will call my tree man and negotiate. 73 Dave K4JRB PS I will try to be on to work all you local guys and gals in the SSB SS. Same for the ARRL 10 meter. 2nd PS I don't like to send SSB audio with a sound card so I use the DVK's....too much chance to get RFI and since I use HC4 elements I don't want the audio anywhere but on my freq (no splatter etc). I also don't like the discreet sound of the program responses so I say the worked stations call but 59GA or 5905 is DVKed! CW and PSK31 seem Ok on the soundcard but not SSB. I seriously considered cancelling my trip to Barbados next week, but have decided to go. I will arrive late the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov 20 and will depart early morning Tuesday, Nov 27. I will have the use of a TS850S and AL80A there and all the fabulous antennas. The 10 and 40 meter yagis have been repaired and there is a new 160 meter inverted vee. There is also a 5 element 6 meter yagi at 65 feet. During the contest, I hope to again use 8P9Z single op all bands high power. All contacts and publicity appreciated. Before and after the contest, I will be QRV 160 through 6 CW and some SSB. I will change bands and modes upon reasonable request to help out anyone who needs a band/mode. My non-contest call is 8P9HT. During the non-contest days, Wed the 21st, Thurs the 22nd, Friday the 23rd and Mon the 26th I will try to be on my usual back home sked that I used to QSO K4VGI for almost 30 years. 21375 plus or minus at 14Z. If I am not there one day it will probably be because I am gone to the grocery store and to the licensing authority office to renew the licenses. I will also check into most sessions of the Georgia State Net (GSN) on 3593 khz at 00Z and 03Z daily (except the 03Z session on Sunday night local time when I will no doubt be sleeping recovring from the contest). Anyone can check in (QNI) and ask for a QSO. We can then move off frequency and QSY to any band/mode you might need. Outside the contest, I will emphasize 160, 6, and the WARC bands. I should have my IC736 monitoring 6 meters for openings all the time I am awake and in the hamshack outside of the actual contest hours. I will be glad to hear from any of you after the SSB sked home or at any other time during the trip. QSL both calls via K4BAI. I can also be contacted by e-mail there. The operation is now in full swing under the business name AY Technologies. The following items are either available now, or coming in a couple weeks: * 9:1 and 16:1 Receive antenna transformers -- isolated windings, low loss, surge protection, wide bandwidth. * K9AY Loop Systems -- the original 4-direction crossed-loops and single loop 2-directions. A mast and wire kit is also available. * Outdoor and indoor receive preamplifiers with BCB and bandpass filters. Products coming after the first of the year include lightweight antennas for fixed or portable (e.g. DXpedition) use on 40, 80 and 160. These will get a major test on the February TI9 DXpedition. Also in the works is a receive antenna multi-radio distribution system. Lots more on the drawing board. Products are being sold exclusively through WX0B's Array Solutions (www.arraysolutions.com). The company wesbsite is www.aytechnologies.com which includes all product data, plus a technical notes section that will be growing in the future. I am able to work out special sales arrangements with local hams and friends, so contact me directly if you are interested. Thanks for your support as I get this venture underway! 73, Gary Breed K9AY
