[SEDXC] Legislation introduced to permit public access to Desedcheo and Navassa

Dear SEDXC member,
    I am pleased to forward to you some extremely interesting and timely 
information.  On Tuesday, Nov.16th a bill was introduced into the House of 
Representatives, HR 5361, that if passed would require the Secy.of the Interior to 
grant public access to the islands of Desecheo and Navassa.  This is not just 
for amateur radio purposes but for any purpose that doesn't conflict with the 
mandate given the USFWS.  That mandate is much broader than the USFWS has 
acknowledged and has used to deny access in the past 5-7 years.
   This is the first step in a process that will reach into next year with 
passage in the House, the US Senate, and then reach the President's desk for 
signature.
  How can you help?  Well, there will information forthcoming on how you may 
help.  But suffice it to say that right now the bill needs more sponsors and 
if you have any personal relationship  with your Congressman, then this is a 
good time to get in touch with them.
