[SEDXC] Antenna Question

I have a Barker-Williamson folded dipole, which was damaged this weekend as
a result of all of the wind. I was going to put up a 6 band Hustler
vertical antenna that I have laying around, and noticed that they recommend
using coax to make RF coils near the antenna feed point and near the radio.
The Barker-Williamson doesn't use coaxial RF coils, so I was wondering if it
is due to the antenna being balanced and the coax being unbalanced. The
folder dipole uses a balun. Could a balun be used on the Hustler antenna as
well and eliminate the need for the coaxial RF coils?
