TVDXA PREPARES FOR THIRD MIN-DXPEDITON

The Tennessee Valley DX Association, located in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, will be activating NA-112, Emerald Isle, North Carolina the
last week of September and the first week of October 2006. This will
be the third annual mini-dxpedition for the group. Prior activations
include NA-213 Dauphin Island in 2004 and most recently St. George
Island, Florida, NA 085 in 2005.

The vast majority of us could never afford a dxpedition to some remote
island where there is no power, no housing and is assessable only by
ship. However, TVDXA believes that anyone can enjoy the fun of
planning and activating an IOTA island. The local group picks islands
that are within a one to two day drive, researches the available
accommodations and the IOTA percentage of members who have worked the
island. The cost of housing and food is shared equally among members
and assures an affordable trip that produces many great contacts from
all around the globe.

Each year the team has enjoyed new members participating in the
events. Trips are usually planned about 9 months prior to activation
leaving plenty of time for members to plan ahead and be involved. Some
members stay the entire time while others stay only a portion of the
trip. This year's trip will have 18 members participating. Each year,
participating members come away with a renewed excitement about the
ham hobby and many wonderful memories of fun and fellowship.
