Hi, Roger,
How's it going? I received this message from several people, but you're the
only one who specifically asked for my comments. (I learned long to ago to
try to offer my opinion only when asked for it, even if it kills me. If you
have grown kids, you can probably relate!)
Anyway, let me say upfront that I am not registered on LotW either. That
doesn't mean that I don't think it is an excellent tool, or that I wouldn't
recommend its use to others, especially avid DXers and contesters. I've
heard nothing but high praise from those who do utilize its capabilities,
and granted, if more people used it, it would probably become an even more
effective tool.
I can't answer for the ARRL officials who haven't registered, only for
myself. For me, unfortunately, since I've become SM, I don't have the
wonderful luxury of getting on the air every day, like I used to, in pre-SM
days. Most of my on-air time ends up being on MARS nets and other state-wide
and local nets. And, maybe because I'm a YL, I've always been blessed with
a very high percentage rate for receiving QSL cards for the contacts that I
do make. I still use paper logs, and still enjoy calling CQ and having a
good rag chew with whoever comes back to me, but for now, hunting DX and
participating in contests is on the back burner. Most of my time is spent
promoting amateur radio and responding to the needs of other hams,
prospective hams, statewide agencies, the media, going to meetings, etc,
than is spent simply enjoying the hobby. I genuinely miss being able to
spend as much time on the air as I used to, but I figure that it kinda goes
with the territory, if I want to do the best job as I can at fulfilling the
responsibilities of SM the way I think it should be done. I'd like to think
that this is also the case for the other ARRL officials.
Take care..... and thanks for asking!

Here is an interesting analysis of Logbook of the World participation
by key ARRL officers and Directors done by AB5K.
It is a sad commentary to see several well-known and active amateurs who
can't even support Logbook of the World enough to upload their own logs.
Perhaps this indicates why LotW has still not received the resources
necessary to properly promote it outside the US and integrate awards beyond
DXCC (and now WAS in part) on a timely basis.
