"Donald R. Newcomb, W0DN, SK (Jul 28, 2006) -- Don Newcomb, W0DN, of
Henderson, Nevada, died July 27. He was 71. Newcomb founded the
Butternut Company, manufacturer of a series of highly regarded
antennas, and he held several patents in antenna design. A bit of a
renaissance man, Newcomb also was an accomplished musician, held a
doctorate in French and was a university professor in Minnesota before
he started Butternut in the late 1970s. In 1994, Newcomb sold
Butternut to Bencher Inc and retired to Nevada. Funeral arrangements
are pending. -- tnx Bob Locher, W9KNI"

I've always liked Butternut antennas and found them, out of all the
various compromise verticals on the market, true to their "marketting
word" when it came to real world results. If I could, my HF2V would
be at half mast today.
