Dear SEDXC members,
As you know we have formed a committee to put our " helping hand "
program together. They will report to us, with their suggestions, at the September
meeting.
This story came to me from Bob, W2WG...I think it is a perfect example of
what we can do to help and mentor these people that are new to our HF ranks.

Thanks! I am hoping for a good response to your email. A new upgrader came
to N4N Field Day. With the code out of the way he went from Tech to Extra
over a few month period. Somehow in there he learned to copy code up to about
15 wpm. He had bought a mobile magnetic paddle and had learned to use it.
He even brought a cpo and I ran him through some example Field Day
interchanges. We took him to a station, hooked up a tee to the audio jack and let him
listen through a few QSOs and then let him make some. He was a little
nervous so we stepped back and let him rip. He soon had the hang of it and made
around 70 contacts before he had to leave. Before leaving he told me he needs
some help on cw procedures. I told him about the SEDXC initiative and he
thought it was really needed and something he would take advantage of. I’m
sure there are many more new upgrades with similar needs.
