Whoops! Sorry 'bout that! When I ran the prop forecast, I didn't allow for
the fact that the sun will be further north by the middle of April and it
does make a difference! In general, the lower frequency predictions are
shorter but it does add some higher frequency possibilities. Here is the
revision. Using W6EL Prop with SI of 76 and K index of 1 (sort of what we
have been having lately) shows the following revised SHORT path predictions
centered on Atlanta for April 20, 2007:
1. 30 +/- db SNR on 40 meters between roughly 1000Z and 1130Z (peaking at
1030Z)
2. 30 meters between 1030Z and 1230Z
3. 20 meters the best prediction is between 1300Z and 1500Z.
4. LONG path on 20 meters also shows about 21 db SNR peaking at 2300Z
5. LONG path on 15 and 17 meters MAY be possible between 2300Z and 0000Z
with signals 6 or 7 db above 0.5 microvolts. If you have a quiet location
and some gain, this could work.
6. SHORT path on 17 meters MAY also be possible between 2300Z and 0000Z.
As previously noted, if you do a great circle from Atlanta to BS7 you will
find it pretty much goes directly through Japan! Discipline will be the
order of the day!
Prayers to the solar deities may be in order. This should be lots of fun
:-) 73 es gud dxing --Don N4HH

I have found it to be quite an accurate predictor and managed to work KH8SI
(Swain's Island) almost exactly on the prediction. Hal worked Spratly on the
last night at just about the time W6EL predicted the opening to be both long
and short path. Of course, YMMV !
