I treasure each and every contact I have made on HF, all of which have been
made possible by the rule changes. Not everybody gets to talk to Germany or
Greece with only a mobile rig, but that was beyond cool when it happened to
me.
Riley Hollingsworth (who mostly works CW) said at Dayton that it would soon
become obvious that the changes were a stroke of genius, but if the numbers
are accurate it might have been more correct to say they were the salvation
of Amateur Radio.
Now, if we can just get out of this solar cycle minimum...my little station
will barely cut it and HF mobile is next to impossible for me under current
conditions.
My goal is simple enough: I just want to work everybody, everywhere, at least
once. Considering the age of the average ham, time is of the essence, and I
already lost fifteen years stuck at Tech over the CW issue.
Rather than fire up the Code/No Code debate again, it might be better to focus
on the sheer liberation brought about and how it actually changed lives for
the better. That was how I experienced it, anyway.
