Fellow DXers,

I am currently listening to VK9IR on Norfolk Island on 14195 kHz. The
antenna is a 5 el monobander on a 44 foot boom at 95 feet. He is just as
strong on my Collins KWM-2A as he is on the Orion I. In fact he is a
little more intelligible on the KWM-2A.

This KWM-2A was peaked up by a former Collins Employee (Dennis Brothers,
WA0CBK of Western Nebraska Electronics). He test selected circuit
components for me using a spectrum analyzer and this KWM-2A is one of
the hottest I've ever listened to.

The only selectivity it has is due to the built-in bandpass and a Time
Wave DSP-59+. When the KWM-2A came out in 1959 it's tab was about
$1200.00!! New is not necessarily best.

While deployed out of the country with the military I had the
opportunity to use some Harris RF gear. It was light years ahead of ANY
of the rice boxes out there. Of course the cost was off the charts.

John, W4NU
