Yesterday afternoon I worked 6 European signals but the average signal was
S5 with QSB. One F8 actually hit S9.
This morning DX summit showed the NE working loud signals but to my
disappointment only a DL and IK4GRO even made S4. Not only that but the
short e skip was missing except for a few W5's and W1's that popped in and
promptly disappeared. At 1620Z the only DX on the band was MJ/PA9JO who was
S1 on 28580.
This E skip DX always favors the USA NE even across to WV and Ohio. Europe
comes in about 1400Z and then again between 2130 and 2300Z. You have to
catch a peak which are very short
otherwise most signals are not moving the S meter.
Having a KT-34XA at 76 feet probably puts me at a disadvantage. A better
antenna would be a stack of 3 or 4 beams with the bottom being 22 to 30 feet
off the ground.
The NE USA seem to also get the DX e skip on 12
too. Today I could not even hear the Stateside running the DX there. Only
K0WK (as always) and NX7TT were readable on 12 at 1600Z).
