Rich:

If you are looking for a panadapter and waterfall display check out the
RFSpace SDR-IQ. Integrates nicely with the K3, displays on you monitor and
at $500 is less than a P3. It can also be pressed into service to support CW
skimmer as well.

Just a comment on the K3 pricing. The version of the K3 I run can be had
for around $2500 and it does everything I need and for someone doing mostly
SSB and a little CW can be had for the $2100 range.. So the pricing is
very flexible. 73 Mike

I have had a K-3 since the spring of this year (2011). It is the best
transceiver I have ever owned. The ironic factor is that is is only
$3500.00 loaded. Obviously there is no contest since many of the rice
boxes are close to $10,000...

I do admit that it has a small footprint and many dxers prefer a
"bigger" front panel in terms of ergonomics.

There was a W8 at Dayton that sells a black box that allows you to have
a waterfall with the K-3 using your computer. It is much cheaper than
the P3.
