Most noise on a band is from local devices such as motors, lights, and power lines. I have found door bell buzzers, touch on lights (160 and 80), a poor ground on underground power transformers, and fish tank motors and the like. If you have a beam this can be found by turning the beam. I usually find the start point this way.

Once you find the direction then you can use devices like the MFJ Air Band system to pin point the location.
On 130 mhz you are very close to the problem. On 10 meters you can still be over one mile from the problem.

Check your house out first with an AM radio. I have found a loose ground in the electrical panel has been a problem in the past.

I have a problem at night on 40 when beaming NE. I do not hear the problem on the other bands. I have found that local noises that disappear at about 9 Mhz tend to be underground power problems. I found a real problem in about 1985 at a local business (software company). About one half way in their long driveway my car radio went wild in line noise. They had a 1200 foot underground line just off their driveway and there was a break in that line. I found the employees had complained that AM radios were noisy that they were unuseable even on local stations.

Good luck on finding the problem. Be patient. I nearly missed the Mt. Athos 1985 xpedition due to line noise. I had to use a receiving antenna to put them in the log on 15 and 20.
