[SEDXC] 7O6T OBSERVATIONS

Often people ask why does the pile up just keep calling when he is working someone. On CW I have observed several reasons I believe.
1. People get out of sync ie they are sending when he is sending. This happens when they are not sending at least as fast as he is. The 7O6T is usually above 35 wpm Ex. He goes TU, and you start sending your call. He ask for NT while you are still sending and when you finish sending you don’t hear anything so you start sending again while he is trying to get NT. While you are sending again he comes back to W4NT and sends a report. You standby and don’t hear him as NT is sending so you start calling again. This goes on and on. If you use break in you would not fall into this trap. Using semi break in you need the VOX hang time to be short. Usually you can send your call at his speed, ie 40 WPM, twice when he stands by to pick some one up. Any calls past that should be 1 time but with just a short drop out until he picks someone up. Sending as fast as he is you will hear at least him sending the call of who he picked up or part of the report so you never have to xmit while he is trying to work someone. Some expeditions are so fast you can only get your call out once before they answer some one on the first time out so you have to be aware of how quickly he can pick someone up the first time. If you can’t send that fast I would use a memory keyer which is built into most new rigs. This can happen on SSB if you have a long call or are giving it too many times.

At times I hear the 7O6T come back to people 3 and 4 times and finally give up.
2. I think this is due to the calling station moved his xmit freq and did not take note of it before moving. If you are calling and he has not answered anyone and you decide to move make a note of where you are in case he all of a sudden comes back to you. I have had this happen many times. Another reason perhaps is that they are not copying the 7O6T that well but are calling anyway.

The 7O6T has been doing a fantastic job on CW from my vantage point. SSB has been okay but I don’t like that mode anyway.HI. All my opinions and I am sure not every will agree.
