Some of you may remember me posting last month about a super loud noise covering 160-40 and causing problems up through 10 M. I finally tracked it down to a particular house probably 400 ft or so from me. I was apprehensive about going to the door as I had been told by neighbors the people living there were going to be hard to deal with, and I won’t go into all the details.
I had asked the power company, Greystone, about checking around the pole feeding the house although I did not suspect anything there due to the signature of the signal. They took it few steps further, pulling the meter to make sure it was in the house and then going into the house to pull breakers. They narrowed it down, and I have not talked to the tech that did the work, but his supervisor said it was a power strip with some kind of TV box plugged in that was not in use. Supposedly there were loose connections on the box. I hope the tech can fill in a few more details as I am not completely clear whether there was something completely bad and still unplugged, or if somehow a loose connection was the culprit. Either way I now have 80 – 10 M back. That direction is completely clean. I have some other noises that are not power line related that I will eventually get around to but the one they solved had taken me mostly off the air. My hat is off to Greystone power for taking that extra step. They have some excellent troubleshooting equipment and the techs know how to use it all properly.
You might remember I had put some blame onto ATT Uverse but I was completely in error on that one. The Uverse supervisor was very friendly in troubleshooting all their equipment at the house nearest me and went out of their way to prove everything was working properly.
I dodged a bullet on that one as everyone involved was very helpful. 73 Mike K4PI
