[SEDXC] 5BDXCC!

Jeff, the next step is the Challenge. That will keep you busy hunting forever. That is my prime focus these days because if you are waiting for a new country to come along to chase they are far and few between. I see a lot of guys do that and their operating skills get so rusty doing that they don’t know what is going on when something does come along. If you have 5 bands you are on the way. You have to reach 1000 countries total, any mode, 160-6 confirmed in DXCC. 60 does not count. At that point you are automatically in the Challenge.

I just finished mine in December, too. it was a race to see if 80 or 30 got to 100 first, and both were tough. I had set DXCC Challenge and 5BDXCC + WARC as a goal for 2017.

Now I find that I am lacking ambition to work the radio as hard as I did last year. The Grid Chase does not excite me.

Congratulations, Bill.

Well, I messed up my card submission in December, so I left off my application for 80m DXCC, I just had endorsements. No matter, I figured, when it is finished, I’ll just submit an LoTW application for 80m and 5BDXCC.

Turns out, unless you have a confirmation for 80m, you can’t apply for the 80m award on LoTW, even if you already have 100 credits!

So, I had to wait until my J5T confirmations came in. With that done, I applied this morning for 80m DXCC and 5BDXCC (with the 30m endorsement), and it is already approved!

I only started pursuing DXCC back in 2003 when LoTW started up. I remember Jim Streible K4DLI telling me that it took him 30 years to get his 5BDXCC. Didn’t quite take me that long with LoTW.
