Hi Chuck, Just some suggestions that might help you get out and receive
better if you are interested.

One thing killing you on 6 M is that RG58.  I am not sure how long the
run is but here are some specs.  On 50 Mhz RG58 has 3.3 db loss.  In
basic terms that means if you put in 50 watts at one end you will on get
less than 25 watts to the other end.. 3 db loss means 50% loss  Now that
is assuming your SWR is 1:1.  More loss with higher SWR. There are some
online charts that will calculate the amount

There are much better cables if you are interested.  LMR400UF has .9 Db
loss at 50 Mhz. I use Times LMR400UF, the UF means Ultra Flex.  Plain
LMR400 while good, has a solid center conductor and is stiff.  The RF
Connection in PA has some better prices on that.  It that is too pricey
for you, RG213 has 1.3 Db loss at 50 Mhz and prices are tolerable.
Always use well known brands.

You can use a muffin fan on the radio heat sink it things start getting
warmer than you want..

Do you have your internal preamp in your rado  turned on if you have
one?  Most radios need some receiver preamp on 6 M.  Not knowing you
radio you should be able to see if there is one built in.  Turn it on if
you have one.
