The first Saturday in August will be the semi annual North American QSO
Party on CW. It runs for 12 hours from Saturday afternoon until early
Sunday morning on 160-10M CW. Power is limited to 100W. Mults count
per band. Exchange is Name and SPC. There is no club aggregate score
competition, but there is a team competition, with teams composed of two
to five members. I will register teams for SECC. If anyone wants to
join me on a team or teams, please e-mail me ASAP. Let me know the name
you will be using and your expected state and also approximately how
much time you can operate and whether you expect to be low power or QRP.
Low power is 100W or less and QRP is 5W or less output. You do not
need to be a member of SECC or within any particular geographical area,
so you can invite your friends to be on a team. This is a fun, low
pressure, contest with some tactical decisions to make. Single ops must
take at least two hours off. I think off times must be at least 30
minutes in length, so that if your last QSO is at 2010Z for example, you
must not log your next QSO until 2041Z to be sure that you have at least
30 minutes off. I am QRV for inquiries beginning now.

This Week's Contests:
1. QRP Fox Hunt. 0100Z to 0230Z Friday (Thurdsay night local date).
Two QRP Foxes (WC7S, DALE, WY and NK9G, RICK, WI) will be CQing between
14050 and 14070 kHz. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name,
Power. Work only the two foxes and do not spot their frequencies. From
our area of the country, we should have a good shot at both foxes
tonight. I'd concentrate on the WI fox first as skip may go out beyond
him sooner than the WY fox.
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint. 0145Z to 0215Z Friday (Thursday night local
date). 15 to 160M RTTY. 100W maximum power. One/one kHz QSY rule.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Same band duplicates OK after one
intervening QSO. Look around 080 kHz and up from 1805 kHz.
3. NCCC NS Sprint. 0230Z to 0259Z Friday (Thursday night local date).
15 5o 160m CW. 100W maximum power. One/one kHz QSY rule. Exchange:
both calls, #, name, SPC. No same band duplicates permitted.
Look around 040 kHz and up from 1815 kHz.
4. RSGB Islands on the Air Contest. 1200Z Sat to 1200Z Sun. 80-10M
CW, SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + serial # + IOTA # if applicable. Most of
us will not be on IOTA islands, so RS(T) and serial number is what we
send. Work everyone.
5. Adventure Radio Society Flight of the Bumblebees. 1700Z to 2100Z
Sunday. 40-10M CW. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST + SPC + Power or
Bumblebee # if you have one. Work everyone. Look around usual QRP
frequencies: 7040 (7030), 14060, 21060, 28060.
6. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday night local date. 0230-0259Z Wed. 15 to
160M SSB. 100W maximum power. No QSY rule. Exchange: Name + SPC.
Look around: 21325, 14250, 7175, 3800, 1875 kHz. This will be good
practice for the NAQP SSB contest coming up next month.
7. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Three separate one-hour mini-sprints
each Wednesday local date. 1300Z, 1900Z and 0300Z (Thursday local
date). 160-10M CW. Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Look around 028 to
045 kHz and lower on 160M.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend. Don't forget to mark Monday
August 21 on your calendar for the Eclipse of the Sun QSO Party.
Apparently the logs will be studied by scientists to try to determine
what effects the eclipse has on HF and VHF propagation. I am planning
to take the day off to be QRV in that effort. Stay inside and don't
risk your eyesight! 73, John, K4BAI.
