This Week's Contests:

1. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday local date. 0230-0259Z Wed. 15, 20, 40,
80, 160M SSB. 100W power limit. Exchange: Name + SPC. Use your NAQP
SSB contest module. Mults count per band. Look around 21325, 14250,
7175, 3800, and 1875 kHz. 20M is staying open at night during this
summer weather and it pays to listen to 20M at night.

2. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wednesday local day. Three
separate one-hour mini-tests. 1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z (Thursday UTC day).
Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Look around 026 to 048 kHz on the
higher bands and up from 1815 kHz on 160M.

3. Straight SKey Century Club Europe Sprint. 1900-2100Z Thursday.
160-6M CW. Exchange: RST + SPC + Name + SKCC# or power. Use a
mechanical key. Look around 049 to 062 kHz and up from 1805 kHz.

4. NCCC RTTY Sprint. 0145-0215z Friday (Thursday night local day). 15,
20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY rule. Exchange:
both calls, #, name, SPC. Same band dupes OK after one intervening QSO.

5. NCCC NS Sprint. 0230-0259Z Friday (Thursday night local day). 15,
20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY rule. Exchange:
both calls, #, name, SPC. No same band duper permitted.

6. DRCG WW RTTY Contest. 0000-0759Z Sat; 1600-2359Z Sat; 0800-1559Z
Sun. 80-10M RTTY. Exchange: RST + CQ Zone. Work everybody.

7. VK (Australia) Shires Contest. 0600Z Sat to 0600Z Sun. 80-10M CW,
SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + CQ Zone or VK shire.

8. Asia-Pacific Sprint, SSB. 1100 to 1300Z Sat. 20 and 15M SSB.
Exchange: RS + serial #. Work A-P area stations only. I can't find a
QSY rule in the current rules, but once upon a time there was a 6 or 7
kHz QSY rule. 20M has been very good to Japan in our mornings for the
past several weeks and there could be a number of A-P stations to work
on 20M.

9. Straight Key Century Club Week End Sprintathon. 1200Z Sat to 2400Z
Sun. 160-6M CW. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, SKCC# or "NONE." This
month's emphasis is on "boat anchors." You may add up the tubes in your
transmitters, receivers, and power supplies and add that number after
your name. Also add an "X" after the number if you are crystal
controlled. Example: JOHN/6X.

10. Portugal Day Contest. 1500Z Sat to 1500Z Sun. 80-10M CW, SSB.
Exchange: RS(T) + serial # or Portugal district. Work everyone.

11. GACW WWSA CW DX Contest. 1500Z Sat to 1500Z Sun. 80-10M CW.
Exchange: RST + CQ Zone #. Work everyone, but QSOs with other stations
in the same country count 0 points.

12. REF (France) DDFM 6M Contest. 1600z SAT to 1600z Sun. 6M CW, SSB,
FM. Exchange: RS(T) + serial # + 4 character grid square. French
stations will sign their department (county or district) after their
call such as F6XYZ/71 since the departments are multipliers.

13. ARRL June VHF Contest. 1800Z Sat to 0259Z Mon. 50 mHz and up, all
modes. Exchange: 4 character grid square. There is an ARRL affiliated
club aggregate score contest, so be sure to put your club name in your
Cabrillo file header. For SECC, put exactly "SOUTH EAST CONTEST CLUB,"
as the robot will not recognize an abbreviation such as "SECC", "PVRC."
etc. Six meters was not Sunday and Monday nights and this could be a
fun contest. When the band seems to have no Es, QSOs are still possible
for up to 200 miles on groundwave. If you have 6M on your HF radio, try
your wire antennas an antenna tuner or with your ATU in your rig. Many
will load on 6M and get out very well when the band is open. DX
stations may work only US/VE stations for credit.

14. Cookie Crumble QRP Contest. 1700-2200Z Sun. 5W max power on CW
and digital and 10W on SSB. All bands and modes. Exchange: RST + SPC
+ Cookie# + name. You can get a cookie number on line and, if you had
once for a past year, it is yours for life. Mine is #251.

15. 4 States QRP Group Second Sunday Sprint. 0000-0200Z Monday (Sunday
night local day). 160-10M CW, SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + SPC + 4S member
number or power. Most activity seems to be around 14060, 7122, and 3564
kHz.

16. North American QRP CW Club June Sprint. 0030-0230Z Wed (Tues night
local day). 20, 40, 80M CW. 5W max power. Exchange: RST, SPC, NAQCC#
or power. Multiply score by 2 for use of a hand key and by 1 1/2 for
use of a bug.

17. Phone Fray. See #1 above.

18. CWTs. See #2 above.

My Alpha 91b amplifier went off last night while warming up. I hope it
is the old plug I am using or a fuse. Likely to be running 100W or less
until I get it fixed. Maybe I'll pull out the old SB200 and see if it
still works. Hope everyone has a good week and weekend.

73, John, K4BAI
