Hello all:
Some of you are regulars on the QRP Fox Hunt hunts and others haven't
tried this fun activity which runs on 40 and 80M in the fall, winter,
and early spring and on 40M in the summer. I will be a fox tonight
along with N4TMM (JIM GA) on 80M. The two foxes will be calling between
3550 and 3570 kHz between 0100 and 0230Z (Friday UTC date). The
exchange is RST, SPC, Name, and Power. Work only the two foxes and do
not spot their frequencies. I will start out listening "UP" which means
about 1 to 1 1/2 kHz above my transmit frequency. When the pile up
disapears, I will stop sending "UP" and listen on my own frequency. To
count for the activity, you must run 5W or less. My exchange will be
real RST, GA, JOHN, 5W I will be using a FT1000MP dialed down to 5W and
switching between an 80M coax fed inverted vee dipole that favors the
west and an 88' center fed zepp that favors the north
If the skip is long on 80M tonight, some of you may not hear the GA
foxes at first. The skip often changes and sometimes shortens during
the hunt, so it pays to listen until the end.
It is very unusual for two foxes to be in the same state, so Jim and I
have a real competition tonight. Each of us thinks the other will
likely make more hound QSOs. So please drop in and try work both Foxes.
You can do a computer search for "QRP Fox Hunts" and find the home
page where the results, schedules, and rules are posted.
Join in the fun whenever you can! 73/72, John, K4BAI.
