This Week's Contests:
1. QRP Fox Hunt. 20M. 0100-0230Z Friday (Thursday night local date).
Two QRP Foxes (K0DTJ, Brian, CA and WX2S, Steve, NJ) will be QRV between
14050 and 14070 kHz. 5W max power. Exchange: RST, SPC, name, power.
Work only the two foxes and do not spot their frequencies. Foxes usually
start off split "UP" and most will move to simplex after the pileup has
died down.
2. Flying Pigs QRP Club Walk for the Bacon. 40M CW. 0200-0300Z Friday
(Thursday night local date). This is a slow speed test with a maximum
of 13 WPM. 5W power limit. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, FP# or power.
Suggested frequencies: 7110-7125 kHz.
3. NCCC RTTY Sprint. Every Friday 0145-0215Z (Thursday night local
date). 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. Max power 100W. One/one kHz QSY
rule. Exchange: both calls, #, Name, SPC. Same band dupes OK after
one intervening QSO. Look around 082 kHz and up from 1805 kHz on 160M.
4. NCCC NS Sprint. Every Friday 0230-0259Z (Thursday night local date).
15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. Max power 100W. One/one kHz QSY rule.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. No same band dupes permitted. Look
around 040 to 045 kHz and up from 1815 kHz on 160M.
5. K1USN Slow Speed Test. 2000-2100Z Friday. 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. Max
speed 20 WPM. Exchange: Name + SPC. Look around 029 to 045 kHz and
around 1820 kHz on 160M. You can use your NAQP CW module, but you will
want to add mults for any non North America countries worked on each
band and recalculate the score.
6. Straight Key Century Club Weekend Sprintathon. 1200Z Sat to 2400Z
Sun. Use a mechanical key. 160-6M CW. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name,
SKCC# or "NONE." Look around 050-065 kHz and around 1820 kHz on 160M.
Bonus points this month for working stations in the former 13 colonies.
It says 5 bonus points for each SKCC colony QSO on each band. I think
this means that your goal per band is 13 colonies and the station must
be a SKCC member. It is possible that it means that each QSO with a
station in a former colony is 5 points, but I don't think so.
7. International Amateur Radio Union High Frequency World Championship
(IARU). 1200Z Sat to 1200Z Sun. 160-10M CW, Ph. Exchange: RS(T) +
ITU zone or IARU society abbreviation for HQ stations. This is a very
popular contest, particularly on CW, and can be a lot of fun. One of
the HQ stations will be W1AW/? and one will be NU1AW, which seems to be
in TX and OK.
8. QRP ARCI Summer Homebrew Sprint. 2000-2300Z Sun. 160-10M CW.
Exchange: RST, SPC, ARCI# or power. There are power multipliers. Look
around the usual QRP "watering holes." 28060, 21060, 14060, 7030, 7040,
3560 kHz.
9. K1USN Slow Speed Test (SST). See #5 above. 0000-0100Z Monday
(Sunday night local date).
10. 4 State QRP Group Second Sunday Sprint. 0000-0200Z Monday (Sunday
night local date). 160-10M CW, SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + 4S# or power.
Almost all activity seems to be on or about 14060, 7122, 3564. Maybe
7040 after the SST is over.
There has been confusion about the NAQCC Sprint date for this month. The
WA7BNM calendar and one NAQCC notice had it as July 15. It is not next
week, but is on July 22, Wednesday night local date. WA7BNM calendar
has been corrected.
Congratulations to Larry, K4AB, on retirement from work and on becoming
president of the Alabama Contest Group and thanks to Tim, AB4B, for many
years of service in that position.
Hope everyone has a good week and weekend and a lot of QSOs,
particularly in IARU. The next weekend will be the annual CQ magazine
VHF Contest. Fingers crossed for good conditions on 6M and up.
73, John, K4BAI
For SECC.
