I leave mine on normal or minimal most of the time...

To make it easier if you have a dynamic ip you can subscribe to one of the
dynamic domain name services.  These automatically update the domain name ip
address when your changes.

Pete is right about the routers though, if you tell us your model we may be
able to help.  But in general you look for something about setting up
servers in your router setup.  There should be some way to set the incoming
port, and the inside ip address/port.  This is assuming that your internal
machines have ip addresses like 192.168.*.*.
