try it before the filter before the contest and see if it is distorting the input to the qs1r... look for harmonics being generated by strong signals mostly I would thing.

For the IARU HF contest this weekend, I'm thinking about leaving my vertical
and QS1R connected the whole time. My usual / past approach has been to
connect it to the RF ANT OUT port on my FTdx-5000, so that it gets switched
out by a relay in the rig when I key the transmitter. That has the
side-benefit of being able to easily listen or TX using the vertical, but I
don't think that's too important during this particular test.
My normal signal path goes through a Clifton Labs elliptic filter to handle
some local AM B/C QRM, then a pre-amp, then the QS1R.
I have an Array Solutions AS-RXFEP front-end protector available. Is it
enough to protect the QS1R while I'm TXing from a nearby Yagi? If so, should
it go before or after the elliptic filter? I don't want to damage the
filter, but I also don't want the FEP to kick-in too soon, based on nearby
B/C signals.
