Hi Bob, yes its a Win7 virtual machine, all the applications reside in a public folder not pf so permissions shouldn't have been an issue but the ini's reside in an application data folder or rather they did. Its been stable since I upgraded the hardware which now I think about it is only two years.. but reliable it was.
Another factor here is the lack of time available to experiment with recovery.
The contract I'm on is absolutely flat out, in fact the time its taken to type this lot could have been better spent trying to fix it.. but the VPN is now broke and I can't think of a way to mend it remotely.
