I was skimming 6M until and electrical storm recently that took out my QS1R
as well as the mast-mounted preamp. Today I was out working on getting
repairs made.
I have been using the PAR Electronics "triangular" OA-50 dipole antenna up
about 40 ft. with a mast-mounted 24db Advanced Receiver Research preamp.
The feedline is about 200 ft. of RG-213. It certainly would be much easier
to have the preamp next to the receiver. I have no idea whether I am
"straining at gnats but swallowing a camel" with the mast mounted preamp.
I was running this with a QS1R that also received 160m and 80. I used CWSL
Tee with RTTY Skimmer and two instances of CW Skimserver, one set up with
"Normal" filtering for 160 and 80 and the other set for "Aggressive" for 6
meters. That seemed to be a stable system.
I know very little about six meters.
