Correction!  For Alpine Linux users:

<https://github.com/pavel-demin/red-pitaya-notes/releases/download/20171025/red-pitaya-alpine-3.6-armhf-20171025.zip>
contains the full Alpine Linux installation, not just the apps. So:

   - unzip just the apps directory and copy it to a SD card with previously
   installed Alpine Linux. So, only the apps are updated.
   -or-
   - unzip the whole .zip file to an empty SD card
