I have done a lot of clean up and have been able to improve some of items. I have started to use Resource Monitor. I'm pretty new to it. I'm seeing things with a tad more clarity. Definitely more info than Task Manager! Here are some changes recently made and what may or may not be helping.. I set System -> Power -> Power Mode -> Best performance - Some improvement (forgot this when I replaced the HDs). Moved the Red Pitaya to a direct connect to one of the GB NICs on the PC (2 1GB and 1 2.5GB). Definitely no bottlenecks on the network! Some HD writing, but with some spikes. I'm using a RAM disk for the digital mode files that get written and deleted. Been doing this for a while. One of the things I'm noticing is in the Resource Monitor lots of JT9.exe saying JT9 - WSJT-X slow mode decoder (terminated). CWSL_Digi - I have seen CPU overload messages. Usually not after a restart. Stopping RTTY Skimmers really has not had a big effect. Not as much as I have heard, but also not as lot of activity at the moment. It seems that the 15 second interval I'm seeing more CPU spikes than with anything. CUP Utilization is 30-60% with 100% spikes (some last a bit). Even with the RTTY shut off. About every 30 seconds, I see large disk writing. Of, course not all the time. What can you suggest to improve the performance. This has been a pretty rock-solid work station.. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6128 CPUs @ 3.40GHz. I think the Intel Xeon Scalable family processors will fit in my PC, I can almost buy a new K4D for the cost of a pair of processors! Of course that depends on cores/speed! 112GB of RAM 2 1TB SSDs HDs, 1 HD is the OS, 1 HD is Data. Windows 11 Pro. Would I be better off with a server OS? My gut tells me the volume of FT modes has sky rocketed. I don't see it slowing down. I'm starting to evaluate the practicality of running this at home. What is the cost of preplacement? Processors alone are scary!! Suggestions on how to improve what I have (OS and/or hardware)!
